Building a Winning Team – by Top Modular Building Expert Aries

2024-03-14T17:20:25+00:00

In the pursuit of building a winning team, understanding the essence of workplace culture is paramount. The office environment wields the power to shape employment experiences, either leading to long-term fulfillment or a swift return to the job market.  As we draw inspiration from the top modular building expert, Aries, we will learn that expertise extends beyond just their products; it encompasses the exceptional workplace environment they provide for their employees.

So, let’s embark on this journey together and uncover the building blocks of a winning team and a thriving corporate culture.

Employees Are Invested in The Company’s Success

One of the most valuable assets a company can have is a team of employees who are genuinely invested in its success. When employees feel a strong sense of ownership and connection to the organization’s goals, they become more motivated and engaged in their work. They go above and beyond to contribute their best efforts, knowing that their individual contributions directly impact the company’s overall success.

“What sets Aries apart from other companies that deliver the exact same things?

Emphasis on team building, positive customer experience & a supportive leadership team that empowers their employees.”
-Lori Turner (New England Territory Sales Manager at Aries)

Employees Feel Like They Are a Part of The Decision-Making Process

Empowering employees to feel like they are a part of the decision-making process is a hallmark of a progressive and inclusive work environment. When employees can contribute their ideas, perspectives, and opinions on important matters, it fosters a sense of ownership and commitment to the organization’s goals. Moreover, employees who are involved in decision-making are more likely to take responsibility for the outcomes, whether positive or negative.

A group of people putting their hands together.

Employees Feel Like They Belong to A Community

In a great work environment, employees don’t just feel like they are part of a team; they feel like they belong to a supportive and cohesive community. As a result, it fosters teamwork, improves job satisfaction, reduces stress, resolves conflicts constructively, and creates a supportive community where employees can thrive and achieve their full potential.

“What’s your favorite part about working for Aries so far?

From the short time I have been here I have felt a very “family” oriented company culture.  That is to say, the amount of support and help I have received has been amazing and I am very grateful for that.”
-Rebecca Mayer (Territory Sales Manager at Aries)

Read the rest of the interview here.

“I must admit,” says Katie Roman, “Sometimes I wake up excited. Literally excited. I’m working a job that I enjoy with people I like spending time with, and a company that brings space solutions to the world. Our mission solves problems and brings people peace of mind. How can I not love my job?!”
-Katie Roman (Senior Vice President at Aries)

Leaders Keep Employees in The Loop

Poor communication and hidden information can turn a workplace into a place of anxiety and doubt. Transparency creates an environment of trust and security for employees, which leads to increased job satisfaction and performance.

Employees Feel Like They Can Be Productive in Their Workspace

Employees thrive in a positive and supportive work environment that fosters productivity and skill development. A workplace where trust and respect are emphasized while discouraging gossip and office politics cultivates a conducive atmosphere for growth and employee satisfaction.

A blurred image of a group of people standing around a table. On the center of the image is the words, “A team is not a group of people who work together. A team is a group of people who trust each other.” – Simon Sinek”

The physical environment of the workplace is just as important as well since this can impact employee morale. A workplace environment that is optimized for creativity and productivity is also important to invest in.

Employees Feel Like They Are Constantly Developing Their Skills

Companies that prioritize employee growth and offer ample opportunities for learning and development create a strong culture of empowerment and advancement.

Amazon, for instance, exemplifies this approach through its Amazon Technical Academy, where nontechnical employees are prepared to transition into software engineering careers. By providing access to such training programs, employees gain confidence and acquire the skills to take on diverse roles.

Employees Are Aligned with The Company’s Mission and Values

Employee alignment with the company’s mission and values fuels their commitment and motivation, driving the organization towards success by fostering a shared sense of purpose and belief in its goals. Moreover, this alignment with the company’s mission and values develops loyalty among long-term employees, who feel a deep connection to the organization’s core principles and are more likely to stay committed to its growth and prosperity over the years.

“What sets Aries apart from other companies that deliver the exact same things?

“I believe we have the best product and people in the industry at Aries. Our product stands out for being top quality amongst others. But I believe our people are what makes the true difference. The majority of Aries employees have worked in the industry most of their careers, so the experience and knowledge that comes with that is unmatched. We can rely on our team to always find the best solution for our customers’ needs. We always want to exceed customer’s expectations and be easy and also efficient for our customers to do business with.

The Aries brand differentiates itself by striving to always operate with integrity.”
-Ashton House (Sales Representative at Aries)

Maintaining a positive organizational culture is a never-ending process. It requires time, effort, and commitment from managers, HR staff, and all employees. However, the benefits of a positive culture are worth the investment. Companies with positive cultures have lower turnover rates, reduced retention costs, boosted productivity, and increased team morale.

How long have you been at Aries?

I have been with Aries for about a year and a half.

Where did you work prior to Aries; was it in the same industry or something totally different?

Before Aries, I worked in the specialty gas industry, and helped in operations and distribution. I enjoyed my time at my previous company, but I’m thankful to Aries for the opportunity to begin a career in sales.

When you’re not at work, what would we find you doing?

When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I love being outdoors fishing, golfing, and floating in the pool. I love listening to live music and trying out new breweries and restaurants.

Tell us about your hometown?

I was born and raised in Arlington, TX, so of course I am a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan.

My perfect day would start off with an early morning duck hunt, followed by a day of fishing with my buddies, and ending it going to a cowboys game or a live concert.

What’s your favorite part about working for Aries so far?

My favorite part about working for Aries is meeting so many people. I have had the opportunity to meet and work with a lot of really cool and kind people both within the company and in my work as a sales representative.

What sets Aries apart from other companies that deliver the same exact things?

We always ensure that we deliver quality products to all clients. We also put a strong emphasis on building positive client relationships. Nobody does both of those things quite as well as we do.

If VisionAries Kurtis Kolanek wasn’t working for Aries, what job would he probably have?

I would hope to still work in sales, but I would probably be back in the specialty gas industry where I had my start.

What do you think the future holds for Aries?

I think the future is bright for the Aries. We have great products and even better customer satisfaction and that is a powerful combination.

An Aries Job is The Best Modular Building Job

2021-03-07T17:57:51+00:00

A picture collage of various scenes of happy Aries team members with the words “Choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life” and the official Aries ram head logo to the left of the montage.

The world is full of jobs in the modular building industry, but which are the best companies to work for? For that matter, which are the best companies to work for, period? There are many ways to determine what constitutes a great workplace environment, and here are a few touchstones by which a healthy company culture can be measured:

  1. Authenticity: An authentic team is an original team, and customers love originality. Dr. Nina Burrowes, author of The Little Book on Authenticity says “True authenticity doesn’t require you to tell anyone else what your values are, because everyone will be able to see your values in the way you live your life. When you are fully authentic you don’t reveal your chosen values, you become them – you live them.” This concept becomes very powerful in the workplace… it’s the spark that creates synergy within a team.

Along with authenticity comes honesty. If a team is not honest within themselves, how does this translate to the consumer of their goods and services? It doesn’t. When trust is broken, it can rarely be gained back. Great company cultures always maintain a level of transparency, regardless of how difficult that is. Authenticity, honesty, and transparency are all signs of a company with high integrity.

  1. Health: Mental and physical health are valued. Let’s face it – when we’re taking our last breath, the likelihood of us saying, “I wish I would’ve pushed myself harder to work more hours at my job” is unlikely. Great employers understand that what brings us to work every day is the paycheck, but what keeps us coming back is feeling valued. One of the most proactive actions a company can take is to make sure their people are feeling mentally and physically fit. This can best be seen when providing employees with great health insurance, mental health days, team building retreats, and good old-fashioned respect and space when a coworker needs some time off to get well. Health is wealth, and a company that recognizes this fact is rich.

A closeup shot of a whiteboard with the words ‘7 WEEK FITNESS WITH ARIES” written up at the top, followed by a weekly workout schedule suggested by the folks at Aries.

3. Optimism & humor: A collective positive attitude keeps things in perspective. Laughter is the best medicine! It produces endorphins, a natural antidepressant for human beings.

Barbara Plester, Ph.D., a senior lecturer in the School of Business and Economics at the

University of Auckland in New Zealand and author of Laugh Out Loud: A User’s Guide to

Workplace Humor, tells Thrive Global in a recent article, “With stress and burnout at

peak levels across corporate America, humor might be the underutilized resource we

need at work …humor can also create bonding and camaraderie and break the ice

between people.”

In addition to creating a happier work atmosphere, humor can bring other benefits that can directly affect the bottom line. As author/entrepreneur Peter Sims stated in his book Little Bets, “A playful, lighthearted, and humorous environment is especially helpful when ideas are incubating and newly hatched, the phase when they are most vulnerable to being snuffed out or even not expressed because of being judged or self-censored.”

4 golfers gathered on a golf course on a warm sunny day around a knee-level sign that reads “This hole sponsored by Aries.”

Bronze sponsor Aries enjoying their time at the Socorro ISD Foundation for Excellence in Education Golf Tournament benefiting their scholarship program.

People thrive in a positive environment, and when challenges arise (as they inevitably will) the collective team attitude is what will carry a team through.  Or not.

4. Mission: A decisive vision unites. One of the biggest obstacles that society faces is our inability to choose from the multitude of options presented to us every minute of the day. It’s hard enough being a consumer trudging through oodles and oodles of product and service offerings. Thus, the company’s ability to set forth on a clear, concise path is so important. If a business has no roadmap, how will they lead their customers down the right path?

In the Forbes article The Importance of Having a Mission-Driven Company, entrepreneur/journalist William Craig explains how high-performance organizations are linked to being mission-driven companies. Mission statements must reflect commitment to higher social good for the community they serve, both local and global. Authenticity and transparency build trust.

Trustworthy organizations are 2.5 times more likely to function as a high-performance organization with revenue growth than lower performance organizations. Eighty-one percent of those working for companies with a strong mission stated their stakeholders hold trust for their leadership team, whereas that number was 54 percent for organizations without a strong mission.

“Besides keeping everyone on the same page, a strong team mission ensures alignment across our entire company. We operate within two distinct sectors of the modular building industry; the workforce housing side and full turnkey modular building. A defined approach to all we do unites and complements both sides to the greatest degree possible,” says Katie Roman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing – Workforce Housing at Aries.

A picture collage of various scenes of happy Aries team members with the words “Happiness comes when your work and your words are of benefit to others” and the official Aries ram head logo to the left of the montage.

5. Friendship: The best teams are made up of people who like each other. In a recent article by Software Engineer and Lecturer Tiago Boldt Sousa, he explains the value of company events and retreats. “The important part about doing this is to emphasize and practice the idea that everyone’s voice matters in the company. We’ve gathered an excellent team of brilliant, capable, highly qualified people. Every single person on our team is an invaluable and irreplaceable asset to our company. And we will be most successful if every single one of them is engaged and vocal about company direction.” He goes on to cite a study by The University of Warwick which found that employees that are happier are up to 20% more productive.

Most would agree that truly enjoying the company of your work associates is like a cherry on top of the sundae of life. When employees forge authentic friendships, they have an additional motivation to perform well and empower each other. The inner-drive to make a deadline to help your friend is stronger than delivering an assignment to help a boss you don’t particularly care for. Healthy competition can exist in place of a negative cut-throat atmosphere. Empathy and kindness prevail when team members encounter life challenges such as sickness, personal tragedy, and accidents. People don’t mind going the extra mile for those they sincerely like.

“I must admit,” says Katie Roman, “Sometimes I wake up excited. Literally excited. I’m working a job that I enjoy with people I like spending time with, and a company that brings space solutions to the world. Our mission solves problems and brings people peace of mind. How can I not love my job?!”

Choose a job you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.

Workforce Housing: Meeting Challenges with Greatness

2021-03-07T17:58:21+00:00

Mountain climber helping another to the mountain summit with the words “Believe in Greatness” above the Aries Residence Suites burgundy ram head logo.

As a leader in workforce housing, we have learned that challenge is our best teacher, and without it, you will never realize what you can become. Influence is not a quality that people are born with. Great leadership is earned through hard work, diligence, and integrity. Life delivers a full experience of good and bad, and failure is part of the deal. At Aries, we meet the unexpected head-on, because we understand it is through meeting challenges with greatness that we earn our reputation as a leader in the modular building & workforce housing industry.

How Aries Handles Challenges

In the face of overwhelming odds or critical failures, it’s easy to lose sight of your aspirations, but the charismatic leaders we admire throughout history don’t give in to that temptation. They work to overcome any challenge, as this excellent Inc. article “7 Challenges Courageous Leaders Overcome” by Jason DeMers describes. From Steve jobs to Oprah Winfrey, from Albert Einstein to James Dyson…all faced ridicule, rejection, and disaster before earning their rewards.

Thankfully, our company is “over the hump” when it comes to establishing itself as force to be reckoned with in the modular building industry, but what about the inevitable daily challenges of building and running workforce housing facilities throughout the US & Canada? What happens when things don’t go as planned?

Recently, a younger guest checked into Aries Residence Suites in Watford City, North Dakota after hours. A new office employee accidentally checked the guest in to a room that was being addressed for maintenance issues. Unfortunately, the guest discovered the maintenance issues as they were talking on the phone with their mom, who immediately became worried, as good moms do. Mom wrote an immediate email, in addition to calling the workforce housing camp directly.

The result of this error was, of course, getting the guest into another room. However, it was the accountability and kindness exchanged between two human beings that proved most meaningful:

(Dear Guest's Mom) Thank you for your response back to me today. It is greatly appreciated that you took the time to inform us and I have inspected that room personally today. If you ever need to contact us again, please feel free to reach out to me directly. I will be happy to help in any way that I can and I want all our guest to be happy and safe! Thank you again for your email and time! Warm regards, Zonda Baird, Property Manager, North Dakota Aries Residence Suites

When asked about the incident, North Dakota Property Manager Zonda Baird simply replied, “It’s what we do. The bottom line is providing good service, period. It’s how well you do or how well you don’t do that sets you apart. People compare different facilities. We build trust by delivering a good experience no matter what.”

And so it continues, day after day, in North Dakota, Texas, Oklahoma, all the way into Canada’s workforce housing facilities. Meeting challenge with greatness one person at a time. If things were constantly perfect, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to show others exactly what we’re made of.
