Aries Provides Mobile Showroom for Les Schwab

2019-02-08T20:01:57+00:00June 22nd, 2018|

Being re-locatable is one of the shining features of our modular buildings. The practical application of this mobility was demonstrated in a recent project completed by our team.

THE PROBLEM

Les Schwab Tire Centers, a popular tire retail chain in the Northwest United States, have begun a company wide initiative to remodel more than half of their 470 locations. The remodeling process will involve on-site construction, which would normally disrupt normal business activities. In the case of Les Schwab, the concern was that their showroom/sales operations floor would be out of commission during the construction process.

ARIES IS HERE TO HELP

With these rooms being critical for effective sales and customer experience, Les Schwab reached out to Aries for a temporary solution. Our logistics team devised a plan to provide the company with modular buildings to temporarily serve as showrooms.

One of the critical requirements of these containers was being re-locatable. The modular showrooms would only be needed at each site for the first phase of construction, after which the container would be relocated to the next store undergoing the renovation processes.

Les Schwab Tire Center’s architecture and engineering firm recognized Aries Buildings Systems as the perfect solution for their needs.

Aries worked with the Les Schwab Project Management team to design their ideal space. Three buildings have been successfully designed, constructed, delivered, and installed in Spokane, Washington, Ontario, Oregon, and Caldwell, Idaho.

OUR SOLUTION?

Each skid-mount, 20’ x 40’ show room features full storefront glass with moment frame construction. Both the interior and exterior finishes are true to Les Schwab’s original style. The showroom’s waiting areas feature an internet bar and slat wall where products may be displayed.

Aries carefully constructed these buildings to withstand multiple relocations; it is expected that each container will relocate to 3 or 4 different locations per year.

Aries will continue to work with Les Schwab Tire Centers until the remodeling of all stores is complete; Aries will be available for maintenance and building relocation, as needed.

Greg Pfeiffer, Aries Building Systems Senior Account Manager, commented on the success of this project:

“Aries Building Systems is excited to be part of the team of this very recognizable brand in the Pacific Northwest.  These show room buildings have earned multiple accolades from our customer, including the Les Schwab CEO, and are a perfect representation of our modular capabilities, as well as the architectural features which identify this customer so readily.  And, the relocatable concept incorporated into the design and use assures Aries Building Systems of a long-term relationship with this customer.”

This project wonderfully showcased the commercial applications of modular buildings. By choosing modular construction, Les Schwab Tire Centers are able to continue business as usual!

Aries Provides Temporary Campus During School Renovation

2025-11-25T16:29:36+00:00April 26th, 2018|

Modular buildings are the perfect solution to temporary building needs, including temporary housing and offices. Modular buildings also make great school campuses. Aries Building Systems provided a temporary modular campus for the students and faculty of Austin High School in Houston, TX, while the main campus underwent a 2-year, full renovation.

The temporary campus encompasses 140 modules, providing a full campus of large-pack relocatable classrooms. Most of the buildings were 10- or 11-plex, allowing adjacent rooms. Our Branch Manager at the Houston Branch states of this building style:  “Schools are leaning more towards going with large pack buildings to keep more classrooms under one roof for safety, security, and maintaining a genuine classroom feel.”

Austin High School Temporary Campus

The campus was scheduled to be constructed and delivered in 8 weeks. Aries had the job done in 6, despite initial delays in paperwork. In addition to more than 50 classrooms and a cafeteria, Aries provided rooms for band, welding, maritime activities, and a multipurpose building.

Austin High School Temporary Campus

Electing for a modular, temporary campus saved the High School time and money, without sacrificing a real and close-knit campus feel. “The key to making this deadline was building and coordinating with the architect, school district, and general contractor in a way that worked. There was a lot of players involved, so getting everybody on the same page was a crucial to getting the job done in the time frame allotted. That’s what Aries does best,” adds Lyon.

Aries in Action: Essex County Airport in NJ

2019-02-08T21:51:27+00:00March 29th, 2018|

Aries Buildings Systems recently provided a permanent modular building to the operations staff of the Essex County Airport in Fairfield, New Jersey.  Previously, the operations staff were housed in an office trailer: Aries was contacted for a more permanent solution.

The building was installed close to the airport, at the base of the main flight control tower. With such close proximity, choosing modular installation reduced the disruption to airport operations that might be inevitable with standard construction.

The new building features ceramic tile floors and painted walls, a 14-inch glass partition between the main office and operations center, a scupper and downspout drainage system, and a pad mounted HVAC system.

Aries Building Sales Representative, David Jones, states of the project, “It is always nice to provide a permanent modular solution in a niche industry like county airports, especially one that fits so seamlessly into the airport aesthetic.”

Airport operations staff now enjoy the luxury of a spacious and permanent building to comfortably work in.

When companies choose modular buildings to meet their needs, they sacrifice much less work time and money, and can usually continue normal operations while the new building is constructed and installed.

Common Misconceptions About Modern Modular Buildings

2019-02-08T20:11:34+00:00January 9th, 2018|

“Modern modular buildings are less structurally sound than traditional construction…”

The truth: Modular buildings are held to the same building standards as traditionally built buildings. In fact, modular buildings are built in an indoor setting with supervisors closely observing the building process to ensure quality and consistency.

“Modular buildings are ugly…”

The truth: Newsflash; The drab, grey modular classrooms your school installed during the mid-90’s are no longer the norm. Architects are flocking to the modular construction method for some of their most unique work, due to the cost and time savings associated with them.

“Modular buildings are only designed for a couple of years of use, max…”

The truth: Although in some applications modular buildings are temporary and relocatable, modular buildings that are installed for permanent use have been known to last just as long as a building that is traditionally built. The working lifespan (under current building guidelines) is between 60 and 100 years.

“Modern modular buildings have no customization options…”

The truth: Modular building companies add a lot of value-added bonuses to your modular building, including full customization options! Flooring, roofing, paint job – modular buildings can be customized to suit your own unique brand and message.

“Modular buildings are not worth the cost…”

The truth: This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Not only do modular buildings cost anywhere between 30% to 50% less on average, they also can be built and installed in half the time.

“Modern modular construction can’t build tall…”

The truth: Modular construction is making large strides in the creation of multi-story buildings. Modular “rooms” can be stacked on top of each other in an interlocking manner, effectively putting together a building in much the same way you would Lego bricks.

Although two, three, or four story modular buildings are easily accomplished, to see an example of the tallest this modular construction method could be taken, check out the story behind 461 Dean, an apartment complex in Brooklyn, NY.

Aries Provides Temporary Campus After Flood

2019-02-08T20:18:16+00:00December 29th, 2017|

One of the coolest things about modular buildings is their ability “save the day”, or in the case of Richwood County Middle School, a whole school year.

Richwood County endured significant flooding in the summer of 2016; a large portion of the county’s educational infrastructure was destroyed. With the beginning of the fall semester right around the corner, a quick and practical solution was needed.

Aries Buildings Systems, LLC developed a building plan that would serve as a temporary campus serving many of the school’s needs, including a cafeteria, band room, administrative space, classroom and science and math lab.

The Richwood Middle School modular classroom project put the Aries team to the test. David Jones, Aries Buildings Systems Mid Atlantic Regional Manager, stated that the team was faced with “challenging topography that varied over 20’ in elevation, coupled with limited access points, and harsh wet weather.”

In the face of these challenges, Aries built and installed 8 new custom buildings, spread across several acres. Students and faculty did not have to skip a beat, as Aries had the temporary campus completely ready for activity by the scheduled first day of class.

The high quality of Aries modular buildings guarantees the utility of the campus for a minimum of four years. Developing plans for permanent solutions to the flood damage has potential to be a lengthy process. In consideration of this, Aries went the extra mile to provide additional parking lots, site lighting, security fencing etc.

While plans for more permanent solutions are developed, Richwood County may rest assured that students and faculty have a safe and spacious campus to attend.

The Future of the Modular Building Industry

2019-02-08T20:21:57+00:00December 12th, 2017|

It’s nearly 2018, and the modular building industry continues to make strong inroads in the construction world.

Although modular homes only make up 2% of new development in the U.S, the effectiveness of the modular construction method is starting to grab the attention of developers for large-scale projects. Take for example 461 Dean, the world’s tallest modular apartment building. Although setbacks within the development led to a delayed end product, 461 Dean still stands as a testament, and as a goalpost as to what’s possible when modular construction is properly employed.

The modular method is particularly attractive to those who want to fight against growing problems of homelessness, increasing rent prices, and growing populations.

The ever-evolving factory technology is also pushing modular construction forward. Automated systems, advanced robotics, and BIM technologies continue to develop. These developments will massively reduce the cost associated with modular buildings (which already has a major cost advantage over stick built construction.)

Showing the world an example of how these technologies can be utilized, China-based company Broad Group has completed the following feats:

  • In 2010 BSB constructed Ark hotel: 15-story in just 48 hours.
  • In 2011 BSB completed T-30, a 30-story hotel, in just 15 days.
  • In 2015 BSB completed J57, a 57-story mixed use building in just 19 days.

Growing interest in sustainability is also pushing the modular industry forward. A focus on green development, which modular construction accomplishes by reducing material waste, and carbon emissions from travel between construction sites is reduced, is becoming all the more important as countries seek ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

When you’re seeking the latest in modular developments, look no further than Aries Building Systems. We are a full turn-key modular building manufacturer and financier that is sure to make your next project a success.
