Aries Provides Temporary Campus During School Renovation

2019-02-08T20:04:43+00:00

Modular buildings are the perfect solution to temporary building needs, including temporary housing and offices. Modular buildings also make great school campuses. Aries Building Systems provided a temporary modular campus for the students and faculty of Austin High School in Houston, TX, while the main campus underwent a 2-year, full renovation.

The temporary campus encompasses 140 modules, providing a full campus of large-pack relocatable classrooms. Most of the buildings were 10- or 11-plex, allowing adjacent rooms. Ezra Lyon, Aries Buildings Systems Houston Branch manager states of this building style:  “Schools are leaning more towards going with large pack buildings to keep more classrooms under one roof for safety, security, and maintaining a genuine classroom feel.”

Austin High School Temporary Campus

The campus was scheduled to be constructed and delivered in 8 weeks. Aries had the job done in 6, despite initial delays in paperwork. In addition to more than 50 classrooms and a cafeteria, Aries provided rooms for band, welding, maritime activities, and a multipurpose building.

Austin High School Temporary Campus

Electing for a modular, temporary campus saved the High School time and money, without sacrificing a real and close-knit campus feel. “The key to making this deadline was building and coordinating with the architect, school district, and general contractor in a way that worked. There was a lot of players involved, so getting everybody on the same page was a crucial to getting the job done in the time frame allotted. That’s what Aries does best,” adds Lyon.

Aries in Action: Essex County Airport in NJ

2019-02-08T21:51:27+00:00

Aries Buildings Systems recently provided a permanent modular building to the operations staff of the Essex County Airport in Fairfield, New Jersey.  Previously, the operations staff were housed in an office trailer: Aries was contacted for a more permanent solution.

The building was installed close to the airport, at the base of the main flight control tower. With such close proximity, choosing modular installation reduced the disruption to airport operations that might be inevitable with standard construction.

The new building features ceramic tile floors and painted walls, a 14-inch glass partition between the main office and operations center, a scupper and downspout drainage system, and a pad mounted HVAC system.

Aries Building Sales Representative, David Jones, states of the project, “It is always nice to provide a permanent modular solution in a niche industry like county airports, especially one that fits so seamlessly into the airport aesthetic.”

Airport operations staff now enjoy the luxury of a spacious and permanent building to comfortably work in.

When companies choose modular buildings to meet their needs, they sacrifice much less work time and money, and can usually continue normal operations while the new building is constructed and installed.

Common Misconceptions About Modern Modular Buildings

2019-02-08T20:11:34+00:00

“Modern modular buildings are less structurally sound than traditional construction…”

The truth: Modular buildings are held to the same building standards as traditionally built buildings. In fact, modular buildings are built in an indoor setting with supervisors closely observing the building process to ensure quality and consistency.

“Modular buildings are ugly…”

The truth: Newsflash; The drab, grey modular classrooms your school installed during the mid-90’s are no longer the norm. Architects are flocking to the modular construction method for some of their most unique work, due to the cost and time savings associated with them.

“Modular buildings are only designed for a couple of years of use, max…”

The truth: Although in some applications modular buildings are temporary and relocatable, modular buildings that are installed for permanent use have been known to last just as long as a building that is traditionally built. The working lifespan (under current building guidelines) is between 60 and 100 years.

“Modern modular buildings have no customization options…”

The truth: Modular building companies add a lot of value-added bonuses to your modular building, including full customization options! Flooring, roofing, paint job – modular buildings can be customized to suit your own unique brand and message.

“Modular buildings are not worth the cost…”

The truth: This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Not only do modular buildings cost anywhere between 30% to 50% less on average, they also can be built and installed in half the time.

“Modern modular construction can’t build tall…”

The truth: Modular construction is making large strides in the creation of multi-story buildings. Modular “rooms” can be stacked on top of each other in an interlocking manner, effectively putting together a building in much the same way you would Lego bricks.

Although two, three, or four story modular buildings are easily accomplished, to see an example of the tallest this modular construction method could be taken, check out the story behind 461 Dean, an apartment complex in Brooklyn, NY.

Aries Provides Temporary Campus After Flood

2019-02-08T20:18:16+00:00

One of the coolest things about modular buildings is their ability “save the day”, or in the case of Richwood County Middle School, a whole school year.

Richwood County endured significant flooding in the summer of 2016; a large portion of the county’s educational infrastructure was destroyed. With the beginning of the fall semester right around the corner, a quick and practical solution was needed.

Aries Buildings Systems, LLC developed a building plan that would serve as a temporary campus serving many of the school’s needs, including a cafeteria, band room, administrative space, classroom and science and math lab.

The Richwood Middle School modular classroom project put the Aries team to the test. David Jones, Aries Buildings Systems Mid Atlantic Regional Manager, stated that the team was faced with “challenging topography that varied over 20’ in elevation, coupled with limited access points, and harsh wet weather.”

In the face of these challenges, Aries built and installed 8 new custom buildings, spread across several acres. Students and faculty did not have to skip a beat, as Aries had the temporary campus completely ready for activity by the scheduled first day of class.

The high quality of Aries modular buildings guarantees the utility of the campus for a minimum of four years. Developing plans for permanent solutions to the flood damage has potential to be a lengthy process. In consideration of this, Aries went the extra mile to provide additional parking lots, site lighting, security fencing etc.

While plans for more permanent solutions are developed, Richwood County may rest assured that students and faculty have a safe and spacious campus to attend.

The Future of the Modular Building Industry

2019-02-08T20:21:57+00:00

It’s nearly 2018, and the modular building industry continues to make strong inroads in the construction world.

Although modular homes only make up 2% of new development in the U.S, the effectiveness of the modular construction method is starting to grab the attention of developers for large-scale projects. Take for example 461 Dean, the world’s tallest modular apartment building. Although setbacks within the development led to a delayed end product, 461 Dean still stands as a testament, and as a goalpost as to what’s possible when modular construction is properly employed.

The modular method is particularly attractive to those who want to fight against growing problems of homelessness, increasing rent prices, and growing populations.

The ever-evolving factory technology is also pushing modular construction forward. Automated systems, advanced robotics, and BIM technologies continue to develop. These developments will massively reduce the cost associated with modular buildings (which already has a major cost advantage over stick built construction.)

Showing the world an example of how these technologies can be utilized, China-based company Broad Group has completed the following feats:

  • In 2010 BSB constructed Ark hotel: 15-story in just 48 hours.
  • In 2011 BSB completed T-30, a 30-story hotel, in just 15 days.
  • In 2015 BSB completed J57, a 57-story mixed use building in just 19 days.

Growing interest in sustainability is also pushing the modular industry forward. A focus on green development, which modular construction accomplishes by reducing material waste, and carbon emissions from travel between construction sites is reduced, is becoming all the more important as countries seek ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

When you’re seeking the latest in modular developments, look no further than Aries Building Systems. We are a full turn-key modular building manufacturer and financier that is sure to make your next project a success. How to Choose a Modular Building Manufacturer

2019-02-08T20:23:02+00:00
how to choose a modular building manufacturer

So, you’ve decided to go modular. You are likely aware of the multitude of benefits that modular buildings offer (environmental friendliness, versatility, ability to relocate, etc.), but may feel less informed on how to choose the best modular building manufacturer. Just like when purchasing any other product or service, there are a few key factors to consider that will lead you to the best bang for your buck.

Building Quality and Versatility ✔

Start by browsing a potential manufacturer’s existing inventory to get a feel for available modular building designs and dimensions. A company with an expansive inventory may have just what you need, in which case you will be united with your new modular building in half the time.

A large, versatile inventory is a good sign, indicating the skill level and adaptability of the manufacturer. If a design that meets your unique needs is not available, the manufacturer should be able to work with you to develop a custom design.

It is also helpful to check out what interior features your potential manufacturer offers. If you need your modular building to “keep up with the times” with modern ventilation systems and technological features, there are manufacturers capable of meeting these needs. Computer facilities, security and video conferencing systems are just a few of the impressive features offered by top manufacturers.

Time-efficient construction methods ✔

While construction of modular buildings generally saves time compared to conventional construction, you can save even more time by choosing a manufacturer that employs alternative construction methods. This involves preparing the land to become a foundation for installation while building is in progress. This simultaneous workflow results in serious time-savings and accelerated delivery.

Cost Savings ✔

Of course, affordability is an important item on the checklist. While you are already saving money by going the modular route, you can save even more money by choosing a manufacturer that offers financing options. While gathering info on a potential manufacturer, make sure to explore the financing options. Don’t settle for less. Find one that is willing to work with you to develop a financing package for whatever suits your needs; renting, renting-to-own, etc.

Another good point of reference that can clue you in on a manufacturer’s cost efficiency is whether the company specializes in “turnkey” project completion. If yes, this means the design, manufacture, engineering, transportation and installation are all handled by the one company. No outsourcing is needed. For you this means significant cost and time savings.

Another advantage of project completion under one roof is improved quality control. One location, one experienced team, one point of contact to remember. It is easier and more efficient for everyone involved.

Maintenance ✔

A very important consideration when choosing a modular building manufacturer is whether the manufacturer has a site location permit. These permits allow the manufacturer to manage continued maintenance of the building and utilities, as needed. It makes much more sense for the experts that built the product to keep it in check, rather than hiring an outside source.

These key considerations can assist you in weeding through your options. A good starting point is Aries Building Systems, a manufacturer with a turnkey advantage and a lot of experience. Aries can be contacted at 888-995-0284 or [email protected].

Immediate Modular Buildings for Disaster Relief

2024-05-02T08:56:51+00:00

What do we do after the most powerful storm of the century hits the Atlantic region? First, we cast down our heads and hearts, and mourn the loss of “all that was” before tragedy struck. And then… we rebuild. On the heels of Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma tore her way through the Caribbean up through Florida, Georgia, and beyond on September 6th, 2017 – leaving pure devastation in her path, leveling communities and stamping out power grids. The Category 5 storm delivered a deadly mix of flooding and wind. A desperate situation, but not one without hope. Communities have pulled together, including our team at Aries, in order to help the effort – in the form of modular buildings for disaster relief.

The Telegraph reports The devastation wrought by Hurricane Irma across the Caribbean will not dampen the region’s resolve to continue to be one of the world’s most popular holiday destinations, tourism bosses have said. Though some islands, notably the British Virgin Islands, Barbuda and St Martin, suffered extensive damage from one of the strongest storms to hit the region in a decade, the Caribbean tourist board said fewer than 10 per cent of hotels and resorts are set to be closed for longer than a week.

“The best way to help us rebuild is to continue with your holiday plans, keep making your holiday plans,” said Colin James, the CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda tourist board, the latter of which was reduced to “rubble” by Irma, which damaged 90% of the island’s buildings. “We are working very hard to help Barbuda, but it will take a year for repairs to be fully completed.”

Meanwhile, President Trump makes his third visit to storm-ravaged parts of the United States in the past few weeks after two major hurricanes, and he again praised the federal government’s performance. “We’re doing a good job in Florida,” Mr. Trump said to reporters on Air Force One, according to the New York Times.

The role of modular buildings for disaster relief efforts is a large one. Immediate solutions are what is needed, and portable buildings are a quick answer to the call for help. Those who have been affected by Hurricane Irma who are in need of emergency modular buildings may choose from the existing inventory of portable structures or request construction of a new building with custom design. Aries Building Systems can also provide emergency assistance on a larger scale, e.g., delivering a structure to serve as a temporary schoolhouse or medical facility.

It’s important to remember that modular building companies in Texas, Florida, Georgia, or the Caribbean aren’t always able to provide the “full scope” of services like Aries Buildings is capable of providing. Besides having the ability to finance, develop, design & manufacture modular buildings, Aries offers every option possible in the face of emergency housing or building needs:

  • Design/Build Engineering
  • In House Manufacturing
  • In House Transportation Arm
  • Construction Services and General Construction
  • Civil Work
  • Land Development
  • Capital and Finance Leasing
  • Logistics Contracting including:
  • Food Service and Cleaning
  • Security and Transportation Services
  • Laundry and Tailoring Services
  • Waste Management
  • Vector Control
  • Labor Support and Supply
  • Tailor made Maintenance Contracts
  • Power Transmission and Design Including Generators
  • Water Storage, Pumping and Sewer Treatment
  • Consulting

Aries has a history of providing emergency modular buildings for disaster relief, including the devastating Canadian wildfire of May 2016 and recent flooding in Louisiana resulting from long periods of torrential downpours in August 2016. With the experience and expertise of the Aries’ workforce, exceptional and fast service is guaranteed.
