The Story of RAM: How Reliant’s Past Spells Success for Your Future

2016-08-25T21:14:42+00:00

Founded in 2010 by brothers and business partners Michael and Barry Roman, Reliant Asset Management is the culmination of over thirty years hard work, perseverance, and experience in the modular construction industry. Building off of the success of their previous modular construction financing company Resun leasing, Inc., the Roman brothers initially created RAM to provide modular buildings and workforce housing for an array of professional needs. In the recent past, they have expanded the company’s reach by acquiring a number of subsidiaries – including Class Leasing Inc. which serves the education sector in California.

“The future of the RAM family of companies is extremely bright.” explains co-founder and Vice President Michael Roman. “The education and commercial sectors are strong. RAM is rapidly moving from a third party finance company to a powerhouse lease originator and remarketer. We are redeploying assets returned from initial operating leases and realizing very solid values.” Indeed, RAM’s push into newer sectors including education and leasing has allowed to company to adapt and thrive, even during tumultuous economic conditions.

Roman goes on to say that, “we are focusing on systems development and refining work processes and procedures so that when energy does come back, and it will, we will be positioned to capitalize on the next phase of hyper-growth.” While oil and energy may not be having the best year, you can rest assured that Reliant Asset Management is in the best possible position to capitalize on the industry’s inevitable bounce-back. In the meantime, RAM’s rapidly diversifying portfolio shows strong returns for this relatively young company.

“The success of the RAM companies is the direct result of the collective efforts of a highly skilled and dedicated team of professionals working toward a common goal.” With RAM on your team, it’s hard to see your future as anything but bright.

3D Printed Modular Housing? REALLY?!

2024-05-01T13:24:51+00:00

Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 8.11.01 PM

It’s no secret what 3D printing is anymore. Amazing jumps in technology have allowed us to create, innovate, and possibly do it at a faster pace and lower cost than traditional production with 3D printing. Let’s imagine for a minute what modular building is: building pieces off-site and constructing the pieces together on-site. We also have heard it called ‘prefab’ construction (more popular in residential building communities).

When it comes to traditional construction, you pick your site, you stack your lumber, steel, and materials on site, and you have a building. As you build, you have inspectors that make sure you are passing codes, zoning, and somewhere a general contractor is tracking cost, inventory, labor, theft (happens more than you think), and on top of that is trying to determine the weather patterns to make sure his crew doesn’t get rained out.

Modular construction literally lets you build the walls (and other pieces) at a separate location to specification, there’s no worry about theft, and the pieces are built to code and zoning regulations and inspectors approve multiple pieces at a time. You literally have an inventory of modular structures that can be transported off the shelf like a prefabricated building store.

It’s obvious to see that there’s benefit to modular over traditional construction (and FEMA agrees) and they are just as sturdy; if not more sturdy (ask HUD) than traditional building. In fact, modular buildings are more common than you could imagine.
But what about 3D printing?

Investors and builders everywhere have stars in their eyes as they imagine lower material usage, lower labor costs, and less expensive construction costs in general: what a beautiful profit!

And yes, there are benefits as pointed out by UC Berkely research. Imagine having giant 3D printer warehouses that can now build at the warehouse and be shipped off to site much like the modular building process? Currently, printers only manufacture out of plastic, resin, ceramics, and certain metals. However, the printers are quite costly, and the circuit boards and ability to program these printers is quite timely. The next problem is the size of these printers: which is not small. We also still have yet to see a 3D printer complete a project with the speed and accuracy of modular building. Beyond that, large 3D printers cannot finish a project (meaning the aesthetic finished look) and needs another step to have a project ‘completed’. And something that is even a step beyond THAT notion, are the tech files behind 3D printing: will there be intellectual property rights on a digital file that protects a manufacturer in a certain ‘wall type’ or similar? While 3D printing has its roots in creating sustainable and cheap building, do we now have a marketplace flaw that will inhibit production costs?

Now let’s throw in another factor of the final process of building and construction: things like electric, plumbing, windows, doors, joints, finishes, all which require significant labor and time: and are all inter-dependent on where you’re building. Los Angeles has different building codes for fire, earthquake, and wind than Houston, which needs less earthquake assurances than say; hurricane sturdiness (Aries prides itself on blast resistant buildings).

For now, the amount of work beyond printing is just as much, if not more time strenuous and labor intensive as building modular. While there are great strides in 3D printing construction (check out what they’re doing in Singapore) there are many unknown factors. It is something that Aries may consider in the future as 3D printing evolves as the standard and quality of printing improves.

Aries Building Systems: Re-Imagining Modular

2019-02-01T18:04:57+00:00

image002

Here at Aries Building Systems, we take a lot of pride in our efforts to design and manufacture the best modular buildings available on the market today. With each new design, we set out to reinvent how modular buildings are thought of by putting ourselves in your shoes, and giving our all to ensure the utmost quality and care go into our designs to suit the specific needs of your business. Not every business is the same, and we understand this. With our huge selection and wide array of specially designed modular buildings, we are confident that we have exactly what you’re looking for.

Many people, when they hear the words “modular building”, think of quickly assembled buildings without the care and craftsmanship of brick and mortar designs. Today that school of thought has been put to rest with the innovations to the modular manufacturing process over recent years. Better materials, designs, higher quality construction and more; we’ve left no stone unturned. At a fraction of the time and cost investment, modular buildings have adopted new cutting edge design principles that rival the more traditional conventions of quality and comfort.

Aries Building System’s modular solutions exceed all codes as well as standards of excellence and then some, and we’re constantly raising the bar to re-imagine our industry.

Aries Gets An A-Plus For Custom Modular Solutions

Classrooms throughout the U.S. are increasingly turning to custom modular buildings to help them find the right design solutions for their students and educators. Aries Building Systems offers a wide variety of modular buildings that are perfect for educational applications, from classrooms and storage units to cafeterias and administrative offices. What’s more, custom modular buildings from Aries can be tailor-made for each school district, offering premium features at an affordable price. A great example can be found at the Vancouver School District in Washington, where Aries helped educators and administrators enact a new building mandate in a timely and cost-effective manner.

This year the state government in Washington passed legislation setting a new maximum number of students allowed in classrooms for kindergarten through third grade. This created an immediate demand for more classrooms in seven different campuses within Vancouver, Washington. Luckily, Aries Building Systems was on hand to provide custom modular solutions for the temporary classroom shortage.

Greg Pfeiffer, Sr. Account Manager for Aries Building Systems had this to say about Vancouver’s new modular classrooms: “These new modular classroom buildings are constructed to last for many years, and are built to meet or exceed all current building and energy codes. We’re confident that they will provide quality learning environments for students in the Vancouver School District, and are very excited for the opportunity to deliver even more classroom solutions to this growing School District over the next few years.”

These seven schools will receive a total of eight modular classrooms, each of which can accommodate up to sixty students and two separate classes. These classrooms are currently under construction and upon completion, will be leased to the Vancouver School District for a minimum of 36 months. By the time school starts again at the end of August, these schools will be ready and able to accommodate all students while they work toward complying with state mandates, all thanks to Aries Building Systems.

ABS Presents a Brief History of Modular Construction

2016-07-18T18:23:58+00:00

Picture1Did you know that it’s estimated that nearly every American has stepped foot in a modular building?

Aries Building Systems takes great pride in our history. The road to creating high quality modular construction isn’t easy- it’s a process it’s taken us many years to perfect. As we continue to move onwards and upwards, we thought it would be interesting to learn more about – and share with you – the history of the modular building industry.

In the early-1800s, a man named Henry Manning created the first known advertisement for a prefabricated home. The fabrication process was, of course, not as efficient as it is today; Manning’s crew constructed the components in London and shipped them to be constructed in various other countries. It wasn’t just small modular homes that were being made back then- a biggest modular project of the century was a 1,000 patient hospital, an early use of modular buildings for medical application.

Sears was distributing their catalogue of prefabricated buildings by 1908. In the next thirty years, they had sold over half a million modular homes.

It wasn’t until after the end of World War II that the popularity of the modular construction process exploded. The soldiers returning home had a demand for housing and places of work that far exceeded the capability and speed of traditional construction. Enter modular construction.

Over time, the modular construction process has been used for many applications- medical, military, industrial, commercial, government, and of course, housing. Although Aries Building Systems hasn’t been around since the dawning of the modular industry, we are confident that our quality products and second-to-none leadership will place ABS on the cutting edge of modular building industry well into the future.

Aries Wins Again – and Does It with Style

2019-02-08T21:42:18+00:00

Aries Building Systems is proud to announce yet another recognition of excellence from the Modular Building Institute awards, which showcased some of the most creative and modern achievements in modular construction this year.

MBI just wrapped up their annual World of Modular show in San Diego, California earlier in March. Aries claimed the first place award for their Relocatable Healthcare Building entry, an 1800 square foot school-based medical riser facility in Monroe, Louisiana.

Entries for the modular building awards were judged on three major criteria: architectural excellence, cost effectiveness, and technical innovation & sustainability. Although not explicitly listed, it also seems that modern design and creative application were contributing factors to this year’s winning entries as well.

Picture2“Our aim was to take the stereotypical ‘sterile’ environment design that’s commonplace in the medical industry, and give the final product a more modern, approachable design,” stated Aries entry detail on the topic of modular innovation.

Aries did just that, with warm finishing touches such as wooden cabinets and natural light utilization throughout the 11-room modular structure. “The final structure resulted in subtle but innovative features not commonly found in modular buildings of this type, or the medical field in general.”

Modular buildings tend to have a reputation for being sterile, bland, or unwelcoming. As technical and design innovations advance, however, modular structures are anything but ordinary. Other project winners at the MBI show included a renovated mission chapel, an ESPN broadcast village, a mechanical and bio-engineering lab, and a Native American heritage center – highlighting the fact that the applications for modular buildings are truly limitless.

So the next time you have a building need, think twice before hiring your run-of-the-mill (and likely overpriced) construction company. Chances are, Aries can complete whatever your building needs are faster, cheaper, and more sustainably than the competition – without sacrificing beautiful design.
