RAM Modular Gives Emergency Relief to Alberta Wildfire Evacuees and First Responders

2019-02-08T21:39:27+00:00

Tuesday May 24th 2016 Alberta, Canada – The wildfire still rages on in Alberta Canada, recently consuming an evacuated oil sands camp while threatening at least a dozen other sites in the oil sands region.

image002-2Despite this fact, the best of humanity rises up as RAM Modular and a host of other modular building companies opened up their camps to help displaced evacuees and emergency workers including RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police), medical personnel, and the courageous firefighters battling the inferno dubbed “The Beast” due to it’s unparalleled ferocity.

The fire began on May 1st and has torn through over 2,000 square miles at an unprecedented speed leaving a path of destruction and ashes in its wake. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is known to have originally ignited in a remote forested area. Shifting winds turned this wildfire into a devastatingly historic force of nature; jumping rivers, leveling over 10% of the structures in Fort McMurray, and displacing over 90,000 people from their homes.

Where is a family to go? Where do first responders set up home-base as they fight “The Beast” and treat individuals for smoke inhalation? “Everybody comes together in times like this – RAM Modular and other remote lodges not directly affected by the fire made their facilities available to evacuees,” says Jim Benedict, Vice President of Sales for RAM Modular Canada. “We did what we could, and were happy to help. Families needed a place to reconvene and gather before taking the next step South.”

image003-2RAM Modular (and subsidiary Aries Building Systems), known for modular workforce housing and mobile solutions, made 400 accommodations available at their Wandering River camp in Alberta and Monias Lodge located near Conklin. In a dire circumstance when the small towns surrounding Alberta were running out of fuel, and general community resources were trying to get back up and running, having immediate food and shelter for those affected was the only focus. “We made a collective decision with the camp operator to bring in extra staff and make sure people had hot meals and a comfortable place to sleep,” adds Benedict.

While the fire has been out of control, some much-needed good news has come in the form of cooler temperatures, more moisture in the air and reduced wind speeds, which will go a long way in helping the 500+ firefighters in the area suppress the remaining fire. As “The Beast” is finally put down, hopefully thousands of people will soon be able to return to their communities in peace and safety.

Aries Delivers A New Start After Fire Damage

2019-02-08T21:40:25+00:00
-73db41de68f42b5fRavelli Monuments, headquartered in Hammonton, New Jersey, provides memorial and statuary services throughout Southern New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Over 90 years in the memorial industry, Ravelli has been noted for excellence in workmanship, design and service, and cherished historical legacy. Unfortunately, on the 1st of April 2016, one of their modular offices at The Lake Park Cemetery in the Woolwich Township was completely destroyed in an early morning fire.

Aries Building Systems worked with Ravelli to not only provide a complete replacement of their fire damaged unit, but to upgrade one of their retail modular buildings as well. This new retail space will be utilized as a sales center, and the administrative modular unit will be used by Ravelli to run their day-to-day business at their Lake Park Cemetary property.

It’s 2016: Is a Man Camp Better Than a Hotel?

2019-02-08T21:41:22+00:00

Once upon a time, there were “man camps” – in their purest form; closed camps that were built or rented entirely by one customer or company. Most of the time the man camp is associated with oil field housing, often a grouping of modular housing that’s sole purpose was to cater to a specific workforce (usually oil workers.)

So what’s going on now that the latest oil boom is behind us? How come, when on my way to see my family out on the countryside, I pass by billboards that read “High Quality Workforce Housing and Extended Stay Accommodations – Open to The Public” – what is this? Really? Have Man Camps turned into hotels?!

Picture2The answer: Yes… and no. A basic accommodation at a man camp is essentially a studio apartment. Because these modular spaces were often originally intended to host an individual for a longer period of time, they were constructed to cater to your every need. For example, at Aries Residence Suites, a standard accommodation includes full kitchens, WiFi, and housekeeping for every single unit. Beyond this, many of Aries’ extended stay locations include a host of other amenities, such as satellite television, recreational facilities, cafeterias, 24-hour onsite management (concierge, if you will!) – and other thoughtful additions like top-notch mattresses and executive meeting rooms.

The bottom line. The landscape is changing. As quality workforce housing is no longer in high demand, “Joe Public” gets to reap the benefits. Instead of checking IN to a hotel for an evening, maybe you’d like to check OUT one of Aries Residence Suite’s accommodations. You may just find yourself enjoying the extended studio-style space at an especially satisfying savings!

Aries Wins Again – and Does It with Style

2019-02-08T21:42:18+00:00

Aries Building Systems is proud to announce yet another recognition of excellence from the Modular Building Institute awards, which showcased some of the most creative and modern achievements in modular construction this year.

MBI just wrapped up their annual World of Modular show in San Diego, California earlier in March. Aries claimed the first place award for their Relocatable Healthcare Building entry, an 1800 square foot school-based medical riser facility in Monroe, Louisiana.

Entries for the modular building awards were judged on three major criteria: architectural excellence, cost effectiveness, and technical innovation & sustainability. Although not explicitly listed, it also seems that modern design and creative application were contributing factors to this year’s winning entries as well.

Picture2“Our aim was to take the stereotypical ‘sterile’ environment design that’s commonplace in the medical industry, and give the final product a more modern, approachable design,” stated Aries entry detail on the topic of modular innovation.

Aries did just that, with warm finishing touches such as wooden cabinets and natural light utilization throughout the 11-room modular structure. “The final structure resulted in subtle but innovative features not commonly found in modular buildings of this type, or the medical field in general.”

Modular buildings tend to have a reputation for being sterile, bland, or unwelcoming. As technical and design innovations advance, however, modular structures are anything but ordinary. Other project winners at the MBI show included a renovated mission chapel, an ESPN broadcast village, a mechanical and bio-engineering lab, and a Native American heritage center – highlighting the fact that the applications for modular buildings are truly limitless.

So the next time you have a building need, think twice before hiring your run-of-the-mill (and likely overpriced) construction company. Chances are, Aries can complete whatever your building needs are faster, cheaper, and more sustainably than the competition – without sacrificing beautiful design.
